Un retrato de Sir Thomas More (1478 - 1535) El retrato muestra su cabeza y sus hombros y el sitter se enfrenta a tres cuartos a la derecha. Lleva un sombrero y un collar de piel. El dibujo ha sido pinchado para la transferencia. Inscrito en una mano del siglo XVIII a la izquierda superior: Tho: Moor Ld Chancelour. Hans Holbein nació en Augsburg, entrenado en Basilea y pasó un total de trece años en Inglaterra, en 1526-8 y 1532-43. Durante este último período fue el artista más importante de la corte de Enrique VIII, aunque los ingleses estaban principalmente interesados en retratos de sí mismos - como Anthony Van Dyck era encontrar un siglo más tarde - y poco sobrevive de Holbein
