Questa rappresentazione simpatica di un uomo anziano una volta formato un dittico con un ritratto di una vecchia donna ora nel Museo di Belle Arti, Houston. A differenza di molte altre coppie di ritratti di questo tempo, queste non erano parti di una composizione devozionale, ma sono state create con l'idea di preservare le apparenze dei sitters mentre si avvicinavano alle estremità della loro vita, attestandosi alla sempre più importante funzione commemorativa della ritrattistica.
