I ritratti a due lati del Rinascimento a volte combinano una rappresentazione semplice della sitter con un quadro più simbolico sul retro. Questo esempio accoppia la somiglianza di un giovane con l'immagine di una ragazza che fa una ghirlanda di fiore in un davanzale. Una fascia arricciante sopra le sue parole, "mi lego con i nodi dimenticati", mentre il gatto simboleggia amore rispettabile. Vista in sequenza, i due lati del ritratto confermano l'identità del giovane come sposo.
