Charles Spencer Chaplin était l'un des acteurs les plus célèbres de l'ère du cinéma muet. Né en Angleterre, il a immigré aux États-Unis en 1914 et a commencé à travailler pour Keystone Studios, où il a développé son persona de tramp. Son premier long métrage est The Kid (1921), il joue aussi dans The Gold Rush (1925), City Lights (1931) et Modern Times (1936). En plus de jouer, Chaplin a écrit, réalisé, produit et édité ses films.
