Heinrich Hansen fue el primer artista danés especializado exclusivamente en pintura arquitectónica. En esta pintura, el artista trató de reproducir el gran salón en el castillo de Frederiksborg mientras miraba bajo el reinado del rey danés Christian IV. Se incluyen varias plantillas en ropa de época renacentista para enfatizar el marco histórico de la pintura. En el mismo año se completó la pintura, un gran fuego destruyó grandes partes del interior del Oratorio del Rey, la Rosa y el Gran Salón. Los detalles interiores de los estudios arquitectónicos del artista fueron especialmente útiles en los esfuerzos posteriores de reconstrucción.
