Activo en Gorinchem (1635-1643; 1652-1690), Utrecht (1643– 1646), Italia, incluyendo Roma (1646– 1654) y París (1651). alumno del artista local Gorinchem Dirck Govertsz (1574/76–1646/47) y maestro de paisajes Utrecht Jan Both (1618/22–1652). La carrera militar del padre (hopman – portador de bandera) influyó en los temas de las pinturas de Verschuring. Sus obras fusionan el paisaje italiano con la pintura de género. La mayoría pintaron pequeñas escenas de género con soldados, sus familias, caballos, perros, paredes altas de edificios antiguos, con campamentos del ejército situados cerca, en el fondo – paisaje de montaña. Una de las características del estilo de Verschuring es un caballo blanco representado en primer plano o centro de composiciones. También hicieron pinturas de batalla y retratos.
