Im Vordergrund hat Vulcan gerade aus dem Netz gezogen, in dem er seine Frau Venus und ihren Liebhaber Mars erzählte; die anderen Götter, von Vulcan genannt, kommen in den Reiter von oben. Hendrick Goltzius hat mühsam zwei Gruppen von Nudes in komplexen Posen integriert, die Komposition mit Cupid auf der rechten unteren und vulkanischen Schmiede das Netz im Hintergrund ausfüllen. Goltzius machte diese Zeichnung als Vollmodell für eine Gravur nach Bartholomäus Spranger. Spranger
