Die Gemeinschaft des hl. Johannes Gottes war unter den polnischen Pfarreien von Chicago äußerst wichtig, weshalb sie häufig und willig besucht wurde. Zu seinen Gästen gehörten: Erzbischof von Vilnius Jan Cieplak, Bischof Teodor Kubina von Częstochowa, Ignacy Paderewski, General Józef Haller und viele andere. Doch mit dem Zusammenbruch der Fleischindustrie begann der Bezirk zu entvölkern und die Gemeinde begann zu sinken. 1992, als sie geschlossen wurde, hielt die Kirche noch Dienstleistungen auf Polnisch, sowie auf Englisch und Spanisch. Im Jahr 2010 wurde die Kirche demontiert, und ihre Fassade wurde nach Old Mill Creek transportiert, 50 Meilen nördlich von Chicago, wo eine neue Pfarrgemeinde St. Raphael die Archangel Kirche mit Elementen aus zwei geschlossenen Chicago Kirchen baut: St. Johannes von Gott und St. Peter Canisius (gebaut 1932 im Austin Bezirk, geschlossen 2007). Die Fassade des Johannes der Kirche Gottes wurde dort in ihrer ursprünglichen Form rekonstruiert.
