ヘンリー・ピーチ・ロビンソンは、1851年のグレート・エキシビションを訪問した後、写真に興味を持ちました。 1852年にロイヤルアカデミーの年間展で油彩画を展示。 1850年代初頭にダゲルレタイプとカロタイプのプロセスを実験しながら絵を続けました。 1854年にフ・ダイヤモンド博士を訪問した後、ロビンソンは彼の職業として写真を採用することを決めた。 1857年にスタジオをオープンし、ロンドン写真協会に選ばれました。 翌年、精巧なコンビネーションプリントを制作しました。
