Hermann Abeking vino de Berlín y, aunque creó un segundo centro de vida para sí mismo en Ahrenshoop en una etapa temprana, siempre mantuvo contacto profesional y privado con la capital. Después de estudiar en las academias de arte de Dresden y Berlín, se había asentado aquí como artista independiente y vivía como ilustrador, artista de carteles y caricaturista, principalmente para la editorial Ullstein. Publicó en la revista
