Hermann Abeking è venuto da Berlino e, anche se ha creato un secondo centro di vita per se stesso in Ahrenshoop in una fase iniziale, ha sempre mantenuto il contatto professionale e privato con la capitale. Dopo aver studiato presso le accademie d'arte di Dresda e Berlino, si era stabilito qui come artista freelance e si è fatto vivere come illustratore, artista poster e caricaturist, principalmente per la casa editrice Ullstein. Ha pubblicato sulla rivista
