Irakli Gamrekeli era un pittore di cinema e teatro georgiano. Terminò la N. Sklofosovsky School of Art and Drawing. Dal 1921 collabora con due grandi produttori-reformer del teatro georgiano K. Marjanishvili e S. Akhmeteli. Gamrekeli partecipò attivamente alla vita artistica di Tbilisi e rimase affascinato dalle tendenze d'avanguardia. Ha decorato la rivista futurista georgiana scrittori, “H2 SO4.”. Le creazioni di Gamrekeli determinarono in modo significativo le principali tendenze artistiche del Teatro Rustaveli. In diversi anni ha collaborato con i teatri di Mosca, Leningrado, Kiev e Baku.
