Le viste sul ghiaccio con figure pattinaggio e slittamento sono tra i dipinti più gioiosi dell'età d'oro. Questo piccolo pannello di Isaack van Ostade è uno di questi. Giovani e anziani si divertono sul ghiaccio, di fronte a una locanda. Una donna in primo piano di sinistra vende torte. Un cane si aiuta a una delle sue guerre. I molti dettagli e l'atmosfera rilassata di scene come questo li rendono molto attraenti dipinti. Van Ostade dipinse alcune di queste scene di ghiaccio, spesso riutilizzando gli stessi edifici e figure, come il cavallo bianco che tirava la slitta (a destra). L'artista, morto a venti anni, era un fratello minore del pittore Adriaen van Ostade.
