The present Cathedral Square was started to be formed at the beginning of the 19th century after the demolition of the Lower Castle wall, the Palace, and other buildings of the complex. The exhibited watercolour shows the clearing that opened behind the eastern facade of Vilnius Cathedral after the demolition of the residences of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania. On the left side of the picture, you can see the extension of the Supreme Tribunal of Lithuania with a high Baroque-style roof, which had not yet been demolished at that time, situated near the Castle Gate that connected the city and the castle.Text compiled by P.
