Während Turner für einen Teil der Zeit in Isleworth lebte, machte Turner viele Ausflüge entlang des Flusses, Zeichnung, Malerei und Fischen - sein Lieblings-Hobby. Er hielt ein Boot und hielt oft über Nacht an verschiedenen Landeplätzen. Er bemalte auch an Bord, wie hier auf kleinen Holzplatten und manchmal, ambitionierter, auf Leinwand. Die Malerei in Ölen in der offenen Luft, direkt aus dem Thema, wurde im frühen neunzehnten Jahrhundert populär, als Reaktion auf ein wachsendes Gefühl für den Naturismus. Turner
