Dieses Deckengemälde stammt aus einem Haus in Leiden (Rapenburg 48) und hängt seit 1912 hier. Apollo, der klassische Gott der Kunst, ist auf dem ovalen Mittelstück dargestellt. Er ist umgeben von seinen neun Musen, die für die verschiedenen künstlerischen Disziplinen stehen. Die vier Granaten um das Herzstück stellen die Elegie, die Komödie, das pastorale Lied und die Epos dar. Im achtzehnten Jahrhundert war der Amsterdamer Künstler Jacob de Wit der führende Experte dieser Art von illusionistischen Tour de Force.
