Illustration of Book VI of Homer's Odyssee. Odysseus, naked and exhausted after having suffered shipwreck on the island of Phaeicia, scares Princess Nausicaa, daughter of King Alcinous, and her companions. Nausicaa is central to the landscape, surrounded by her maids, some of whom are in a gilded car; Odysseus kneels to the right on the edge of the forest; between Odysseus and Nausicaa one of the maids tries to flee in a red costume.
