James Henry Breasted a publié The Edwin Smith Surgical Papyrus en 1930. Il comprenait une transcription complète, une traduction et des commentaires sur cet ancien texte médical. Un grand nombre de ces traitements comprennent des applications largement pratiques pour les médecins pour traiter leurs patients et soulager la douleur, bien qu'un certain nombre d'incantations soient également incluses (comme le montre ici à droite). Il s'agit du premier volume publié par l'Institut oriental à utiliser la police hiéroglyphique conçue par Alan H. Gardiner et produite par Oxford University Press, une police connue depuis sous le nom de police Oxford ou Gardiner.
