Hart wurde in Schottland geboren und als Kind mit seinen Eltern nach New York gezogen. Er studierte in Deutschland, kehrte 1853 in die Vereinigten Staaten zurück und eröffnete ein Studio in Albany, bevor er nach New York City zog. Dieses Gemälde, wie barock-era Landschaften, Inlandsate und Frames Natur. Kombinieren Genre und Landschaftsmalerei, es sentimentalisiert die Freuden der Natur und des Familienlebens.
