Questa scena animata si trova in opposizione alla grande tradizione classica rappresentata da Poussin, Claude e Bourdon. L'immagine è ascritta a Jan Miel, che si trasferì a Roma nel 1630. Si è specializzato in scene di vita contemporanea chiamate bambocciate, dopo il soprannome del creatore del genere, Pieter van Laer. Anche se il lavoro di Miel è in contrasto con la premessa dei paesaggi classici, è noto che ha collaborato con Gaspard Dughet ed è stato suggerito che il paesaggio in questa immagine è stato dipinto da Dughet con le figure aggiunte da Miel.
