Una scena della vita di San Hubert appare dietro la muta. Mentre fuori a caccia il Venerdì Santo, l'amante Hubert vide un cervo con una visione del crocifisso tra i suoi forni. Egli rinuncia al suo modo di vivere mondano, si voltò al cristianesimo, divenne vescovo, poi santo. La scena è forse inclusa qui perché il giovane era chiamato Hubert o apparteneva a una gilda dedicata al santo. Dal 1519 al 1521 Mostaert fu un pittore di corte al Reggente dei Paesi Bassi, Margherita d'Austria.
