Maria è in piedi nella navata di una cattedrale gotica, più grande della vita, e con il bambino. La descrizione dettagliata dell'architettura e la sottile pendenza della luce danno all'interno della chiesa un'aura spaziale che è tutta sua. La luce diurna luminosa che entra attraverso le finestre del clerestory incorniciato e il portale laterale è un promemoria del passaggio del tempo. L'iscrizione registrata sulla cornice, che non è sopravvissuta, ha elogiato il miracolo di Cristo
