Im Alter von siebenundsiebzig Jahren, Corot weiterhin aus der Natur während seiner Reisen in ganz Frankreich zu malen. Er produzierte auch erfundene Studiolandschaften wie dieses Bild, das in der Gedenkausstellung 1875 in der École des Beaux-Arts, Paris, kurz nach dem Tod des Künstlers aufgenommen wurde.
