Corot malte diese spitze, aber sicher Skizze, während er ein Schüler von Jean-Victor Bertin war und hielt es, bis er starb. Es stellt die Mutter und Schwester von Corot dar, die von einem großen italienischen Pappel stand, der den Eingang zum Anwesen der Familie in Ville d’Avray in der Nähe von Paris markierte.
