L'intimità di un boschetto ombreggiato circondato da tronchi di albero scuro dà a questa scena esterna l'aspetto di un interno. La donna a destra è Misia Natanson (nata Godebska, 1872–1903), che apparve in molti dipinti di Vuillard, così come nelle opere di Toulouse-Lautrec, Bonnard e Renoir. Vuillard ha fatto tre versioni di questa scena cupa, tutte nel suo studio alla sua morte.
