Un uomo offre di aiutare una donna a reattaccare la sua guarnizione, un concepimento comune nella pittura erotica e nella letteratura nella Francia settecentesca. La sua mano rifiuta fermamente il suo anticipo, ma la decisione indecorosa di rivelare la sua gamba alla sua presenza suggerisce uno stratagemma -forse ispirato al contenuto del libro che ha scartato accanto ad una statuetta di bronzo già scartata. L'orologio assomiglia agli ultimi modelli del famoso produttore di mobili André Charles Boulle e comprende una figura di Saturno, o Padre Time, la cui scintilla è stata rubata da Cupido.
