Anche se questo sembra essere una vita ancora olandese del XVII secolo, è stato fatto nel XVIII secolo dal pittore parigino Chardin. Ha assemblato alcuni oggetti di uso quotidiano, come una grande pentola di rame, due mortai di terracotta e qualche cibo, mettendoli in illuminazione morbida. Chardin fu un grande ammiratore dei maestri olandesi del XVII secolo, come Pieter Claesz e Willem Heda, anche se dipinse molto più liberamente dei suoi predecessori.
