L’armadietto e meccanico Jean-François Oeben disegnarono questo nuovo tipo di mobilio, il più famoso esempio di cui è la scrivania di Luigi XV a Versailles, commissionata nel 1761 e consegnata dal successore di Oeben Jean-Henri Riesener nel 1769. Madame de Pompadour possedeva una scrivania molto simile a questa (adattata con uno scaffale inferiore), notevole per le sue piccole dimensioni e la qualità della sua decorazione intarsiata di fiori. Questo pezzo proviene dalla collezione di Comte Boni de Castellane.
