Quando Bidauld dipinse questo disegno, il Lago di Fucino fu il più grande corpo d'acqua della regione abruzzese dell'Italia centrale. (In seguito è stato drenato.) Il fastidioso approccio di Bidauld a lavorare fuori di porte rivali le immagini di Salon ha eseguito nel suo studio. Un collega dell'artista ha raccontato: "Ogni giorno ha dipinto o disegnato sul posto, sempre in un luogo diverso, imparando a fare studi facendo dipinti finiti, e fare quadri finiti facendo studi".
