Diese sorgfältig gemalte kleine Arbeit ist ein typisches Beispiel für den Mannerismus-Stil, der in der Mode um 1600 war. Der Stil zeichnet sich durch nackte Figuren in komplexen anmutigen Posen aus. Joachim Wtewael malte diese Arbeit auf glattem Kupfer, die sich gut eignet, um feine Details zu malen. Es zeigt das Ehebruch von Venus und Mars. Der Mann von Venus Vulcan – der mit seinem Rücken zu uns auf der linken Seite steht – hat das Paar in der Tat gefangen und legt den Betrug den Göttern vor, die sich versammelt haben.
