Il dipinto fu realizzato da Carl Henrici, una delle figure principali del tirolese Rococo, molto acclamato dal clero e dalla borghesia di Bolzano nel periodo tra il XVIII e il XIX secolo. La scena raffigura la comunione degli apostoli, un'inconografia modellata sulla liturgia di massa che divenne molto popolare nel periodo barocco e tardo barocco: all'interno di un edificio monumentale l'architettura di cui ricorda quella di una chiesa, Cristo in un sacerdote
