In einer Landschaft mit Bäumen, im Vordergrund, gibt es zwei Figuren, eine feminine und eine maskuline, deren letztere tot liegt. Neben ihm gibt es einen Rasierapparat mit Pfeilen. Steht still, zwei Hunde beobachten die Szene. Diese Szene zeigt den Moment, als Venus Panik nach dem Wissen, dass Adonis, sein junger und schöner Liebhaber, von einem wilden Wildschwein getötet worden war. Um ihm Hommage zu zahlen, verwandelt sie seine Leiche in eine Blume, die nach ihm benannt wird, wie es in Metamorphosen (10.717-739) beschrieben wird.
