Nach Angaben der Familie Bibel, schottische Einwanderer John Murchie (1750-1831) von Manchester, Virginia, heiratete Catherine Harrison, eine Tochter von William Harrison von Virginia, im Jahre 1782. Dieses Ölporträt und sein Begleiter von John (derzeit in This Is Richmond, VA) werden dem Künstler John Durand zugeschrieben. Eine englische Tradition, Hochzeitsporträts wurden von der kolonialen Gattungsklasse nicht nur als Symbol des Status, sondern auch zur Veranschaulichung von Familienverbindungen in Auftrag gegeben. John und Catherine produzierten fünf Kinder, beginnend mit der Geburt von Martha im Jahre 1783. 1791 starb Catherine nach der Geburt ihrer jüngsten Tochter Catherine (d. 1792). John Murchie heiratete 1804 zum Susanna-Tempel.
