Музей: Glencairn Museum (Bryn Athyn, United States)

техніка: Watercolor

This drawing of St. Francis of Assisi was given to Raymond and Mildred Pitcairn in 1960 by artist John Pike, who lived and worked in Woodstock, New York. Drawn in black ink with a brown watercolor wash, St. Francis is apparently “preaching to the birds.” Pax et Bonum, which is Latin for Peace and Goodness [to you], was a greeting commonly used by the saint. The artist owned the John Pike Watercolor School in Woodstock, near the summer home of Raymond and Mildred Pitcairn on Tonche Mountain. He published his work in Life, Cosmopolitan, Readers Digest, and many other magazines.
