Seit vielen Jahren wurde diese Aquarell dem New Yorker Portrait- und Landschafts-Wasserfarbener John Rubens Smith zugeschrieben. Neueres Stipendium deutet darauf hin, dass der Künstler ein Amateur-Perhaps war, auch ein Mitarbeiter von Phyfe’s Shop- vertraut mit gravierten Bildern von Manufakturen und Geschäften der Art gedruckt auf Visitenkarten und Möbellabels und in Zeitungsanzeigen. Das Bild entspricht fast genau einer solchen Abbildung, beispielsweise in der Art, wie die Gebäude den Bildraum und die kontrizierte Präsentation der Waren des Ladens in der zentralen Tür vollständig ausfüllen.
