This English map of Poland and Silesia published in London is an adaptation of an important cartographic work by Gerard Mercator, Polonia et Silesia from 1585, which was the basis for many maps of Poland in the 16th and 17th centuries. In addition, J. Speed’s work distinguishes itself by its exceptional visual attractiveness, achieved by numerous decorative elements. The map falls within the Ossolineum’s collecting scope which focuses on works concerning and related to Poland. The map is loose, dimensions 41×52 cm. Scale ca. 1:1 800 000. The title cartouche is in the top right corner, cartouche with linear scale is found in the bottom left corner. Along the left and right frame of the map there is an iconography presenting 8 female and male figures in clothes characteristic for Poland and Silesia, as well as Silesian and Polish coats of arms. Along the upper frame of the map are 6 views of cities and a portrait of King Sigismund III Vasa.
