José Gonzales nacque in Spagna nel 1887. Nel 1906 si trasferisce a Parigi, dove si chiama Juan Gris. Pensa che questo nome sia più adatto per una carriera come artista caricatura, che è quello che ha in mente. A Parigi si unisce al gruppo di artisti che si è formato intorno a Picasso e diventa uno dei padri del Cubismo. Gris si impegna in quello che chiama pittura deduttiva. In primo luogo applica elementi visivi alla tela come la linea, la forma e il colore. Poi determina quali elementi figurativi possono essere trovati in quel modello. Come gli altri Cubisti, Juan Gris ha una preferenza per motivi musicali. I Cubisti sono particolarmente affascinati dalla forma di strumenti musicali. Griglia
