Der tiefe Horizont und der weit gemalte Himmel in diesem Bild bezeugen Duprés Interesse an neuer englischer Kunst, vor allem an den Landschaften von John Constable und dem späten Richard Parkes Bonington. Diese Arbeit passt zu der Beschreibung einer "expansiven und wahren Komposition" vor kurzem "auf der Stelle" in der Region Limousin im Zentrum Frankreichs gemalt, die ein Kritiker in der Pariser Galerie Susse Frères im Sommer 1836 bewunderte. Sein erster Besitzer war Paul Périer (1812–1897), ein früher Unterstützer von Dupré sowie seine Kollegen Théodore Rousseau und Alexandre-Gabriel Decamps.
