La solitudine dell’uomo e la transienza della natura, temi chiaramente indicati in questo quadro, trovano paralleli diretti nelle opere del pittore Caspar David Friedrich e del compositore Franz Schubert, in particolare il suo ciclo di canzoni Die Winterreise, o Winter Journey (1827).
