Lo schermo a destra presenta fiori di prugne con altri fiori primaverili che crescono nelle vicinanze; più a sinistra, le iris di estate sono in fiore. Nightingales e cucù festeggiano entrambe le stagioni. Lo schermo di sinistra raffigura l'autunno e l'inverno, rappresentato da ibiscus, bambù nevoso, un pescatore re, e fagiani. Ogni schermo porta due guarnizioni di Kano Sanboku. Poco si sa di Sanboku, tranne che era uno studente di Kano Sanraku (1559–1635) e Kano Sansetsu (1590–1651), i due grandi maestri del ramo di Kyoto della scuola Kano. La sua subdola rappresentazione delle quattro stagioni richiama l'arte di Sansetsu ed è quasi priva di colore, sprigionando l'esuberanza che appellava al gusto dei clienti guerrieri del primo periodo Edo.
