Die lebhafte Darstellung von Vögeln in natürlichen Einstellungen mit saisonalen Bäumen und Blumen war ein beliebtes Thema in der Frühfarbenmalerei und ein Markenzeichen der Kano-Schule der Maler unter der Leitung von Kano Motonobu (ca. 1476–1559). Diese Rendition, die dem Bruder von Motonobu, Yukinobu, zugeschrieben ist, befindet sich in der Tinte-Stil inspiriert von dem Southern Song Maler Muqi (Ende des 13. bis Anfang des 14. Jahrhunderts), die tonale Variationen von Tinte anstelle von Umrissen verwendet, um die weichen Formen von Federn und Blumen zu definieren.
