La vivace raffigurazione di uccelli in contesti naturali con alberi di stagione e fiori era un tema preferito nella pittura di inchiostro precoce e un segno distintivo della scuola di pittori Kano guidata da Kano Motonobu (ca. 1476–1559). Questa interpretazione attribuita al fratello di Motonobu, Yukinobu, è nello stile inchiostro-lavaggio ispirato al pittore Song Meridionale Muqi (fine XIII-inizio del XIV secolo), che utilizza variazioni tonali di inchiostro invece di contorni per definire le forme morbide di piume e fiori.
