Karel Dujardin (1622-1678) est un peintre néerlandais de l'âge d'or. Fils du peintre Guilliam Dujardin (né en 1597). Qui a enseigné Dujardin est inconnu, peut-être Nicolaes Berchem (1620-1683) ou Paulus Potter (1625-1654), comme l'influence des deux peintres est visible dans son travail. Outre ses paysages italiens, Dujardin a également peint des portraits et des scènes historiques dans un style classicisé qui sont lisses, élégants et colorés. Aux Pays-Bas, Dujardin vivait à La Haye et à Amsterdam. En 1675, il voyage en Italie, où son style change complètement ; ses figures sont maintenant plus petites et le ton est plus sombre. À Rome, Dujardin a rejoint une société d'artistes hollandais appelés les Bentvueghels et a été surnommé
