Questo antico torso, le cui aggiunte di Lambert-Sigisbert Adamo il Vecchio lo trasformò in una figura di Bacco, fu dalla raccolta del cardinale Melchior de Polignac (1661–1741), l'influente ambasciatore francese in Vaticano e grande ammiratore dell'antichità classica che aveva organizzato numerosi scavi nelle vicinanze di Roma. Dopo la morte di de Polignac, Federico il Grande acquistò la collezione del cardinale, che contava trecento oggetti. L’identità di questo torso non è stata chiaramente stabilita; è stata vista come una replica dell’Efebe di Westmacott, o in alternativa del Satyr di Pouring di Praxiteles. I Bacco in precedenza si trovavano fuori dalla biblioteca nel palazzo di Sanssouci prima di entrare in possesso del dipartimento di antichità dei Musei di Berlino nel 1842. Oggi la sua ex posizione a Potsdam è occupata da una copia.
