Der Firebird ist ein bekanntes Kostümdesign von Bakst, das er für Igor Stravinskys Ballett desselben Namens kreierte. Dies war ein Durchbruch Ballett, nicht nur weil es Stravinskys erstes populäres Ballett war, sondern weil es das erste Ballett war, in dem Stravinsky mit Sergei Diaghilev, Bakst und dem Ballett Russes zusammengearbeitet hat. Diese Zusammenarbeit würde auch zur Produktion von Petrushka und The Rite of Spring führen, die beide für ihre Kosten- und Set-Design sehr bewundert waren. Neben Leon Bakst war Alexandre Benois auch ein prominenter Designer für Stravinskys Ballett, das viele Designs für die Ballett Russes-Produktionen produzierte.
