Il focus di questo disegno è un clump di star-of-Bethlehem (Ornithogalum umbellatum L.), le cui foglie oscillanti sono viste negli studi per la Leda inginocchiata e nella maggior parte delle copie del dipinto, dove ammorbidisce il bordo della roccia su cui il cigno sta (lo stesso dispositivo è visto dalle gambe del battista bambino nel cartone St Anne, di una data simile). Sbattere la stella del Bethlehem è anemone di legno (Anemone nemorosa L.), e sotto è spurge sole (Euphorbia helioscopia L.) con dettagli delle sue teste di semi. Anche se la stella-di-Bethlehem è un po' stilizzata, le lame di erba che crescono senza problemi tra e dietro gli anemoni suggeriscono che Leonardo osserva queste piante in natura. Melzi
