These two nearly identical presentation drawings (see also 67.654.198) for large hanging shades were intended for the Bellevue Palace, a luxury hotel in Bern, Switzerland, which was established in 1865, demolished in 1911, and reconstructed in 1913. The client, Mr. J. R. Martin, was given at least two possibilities for the commission—a shade with poppy imagery in red tones and a shade with magnolia imagery in a creamy white and blue palette. Suspended below each shade are eight iridescent blown-Favrile-glass “Lily” shades. The drawings demonstrate Tiffany craftsmen’s use of stock elements even in custom designs.
