Das Bild stammt von 1360–65, als Luca di Tomme bekannt ist, mit dem Miniaturisten Niccolò di Ser Sozzo zusammengearbeitet zu haben. Dies war seine erfinderischste Zeit und das gegenwärtige Bild, das Mittelpanel eines nicht identifizierten Altarbildes, ist eines seiner herausragenden Werke. Obwohl es keine großen Verluste gibt, wurde der Charakter des Bildes durch Abflachung aufgrund seiner Übertragung und harter Reinigung stark verdorben.
