La imagen data de aproximadamente 1360-65, cuando se sabe que Luca di Tomme ha colaborado con el miniaturista, Niccolò di Ser Sozzo. Este fue su período más inventivo y el cuadro presente, el panel central de un retablo no identificado, es una de sus obras más distinguidas. Aunque no hay pérdidas importantes, el carácter de la imagen ha sido enormemente marecido por aplanamiento debido a su transferencia y limpieza dura.
