La donna sul dipinto mostra somiglianza sia a Catherina von Bora, moglie di Lutero, e Sybilla, principessa di Sassonia per cui Cranach aveva grande rispetto. La stessa figura e la stessa faccia venne utilizzata negli anni 1520 su diverse rappresentazioni di Judith e Salome di Cranach.
